Litigation lawyers must be detail-oriented since they will be dealing with complex legal issues and cases. They should have a sharp eye for finding loopholes in the law and making sure all paperwork is filled out correctly.

2. Problem-solving

A good litigation lawyer should have strong problem-solving skills to come up with creative solutions and strategies for their clients.

3. Communication

Litigation lawyers must be able to communicate effectively in order to represent their client’s interests both inside and outside of the courtroom. They should have strong persuasive skills, as well as exceptional public speaking abilities.

4. Organization

To stay on top of multiple cases at once, litigation lawyers must be highly organized. They should also have good time-management skills to ensure that they are meeting all deadlines and court appearances.

5. Passion

Above all else, a successful litigation lawyer should possess a passion for justice and fight for their client’s rights no matter what the situation is.

Litigation Lawyer’s Education

Litigation lawyer’s need a Juris Doctorate degree along with an Ontario license to practice in the province. An aspiring litigation lawyer must then pass the bar exam and complete articling before they can practice. After that, the lawyer must keep up to date with changes in the law and take continuing legal education courses throughout their career.
